This indicator is based on recommendations for medication management made in the Guiding Principles for Medication Management in Residential Aged Care Facilities (Guiding Principles) to support aged care provider organisations, residential care homes (RCHs) and aged care staff to improve medicine safety.
The Guiding Principles recognise that Medication Advisory Committees (MACs) are an important clinical governance tool to support medication safety. A MAC is a multidisciplinary committee that provides overarching governance of medication management within a RCH to ensure the judicious, appropriate, safe and quality use of medicines. MACs have a key role in developing, implementing and evaluating medication-related quality improvement activities that promote medication safety for residents.
